The Cygnet Football Club played host to the Kingborough Football Club l in perfect football conditions at Cygnet Oval in front of a very large crowd.

The Colts ... kicked the dew off the ground with the young Cygnet side severely depleted courtesy of a school trip however Coach Sam Warren was able to field sufficient players to still have a couple of spares on the bench which is a good sign. Both sides struggled in the slippery conditions early in the game and the young Port side were showing a lot of fight against their more fancied opponents who had opened up a 5 goal lead by half time. The Port battled bravely in the second half and played some good passages of football, but the young Tigers went on to record a hard fought 47 point victory.     Better players for the Port included Adam Direen, Corey Shaw, and Jordan Direen who rucked well. Jeremy Hickey continues his good form and Ben Smith and Daniel Donato were solid contributors. A good effort by the boy’s considering the circumstances.

The Reserves ... were fired up for a solid effort and bounced out of the blocks surprising Kingborough with their attack on the football. A late goal to the Tigers saw them trail by 1 point at quarter time. The game continued at a solid pace in the second stanza with both sides trying to gain a break over each other. Kingborough courtesy of a 3 goal term opened up a 3 goal break at the half time break.

The second half saw Kingborough edge away as they started to get their running game going and players finding space on the big oval. A seven to one goal second half set up Kingborough’s hard earned 58 point victory. It was good to see the Cygnet side battle the game out till the final siren restricting the Tigers to three goals.

The Port’s best included Loic Auderset who rucked tirelessly and did plenty of ground work while “Libba” Paul provided solid support. Timmy Bone put his body on the line all day and Krisco Harding was terrific in the backline. Ashby Hickey and Craig Phillips rounded out what was a fairly good effort against quality opposition.

The Senior side ... as has been the case almost every week started really well and led the Tigers at the first break. A six goal to three second term saw the Tigers open up a 16 point lead at the long break in an even affair. The game was lost by the port in the first 10 minutes of the third term when the Tigers banged on 4 quick goals to take control of the match.

For the second week in a row the players capitulated to the opposition with the Tigers ramming home 14 second half goals to the Ports one to post an easy 96 point victory.

Better players for a disappointing Port team were Adam Duggan who defeated every player he was assigned and Captain Bradley Watson who returned from illness picked up numerous possessions. Mark Fenton again played another very consistent match and pulled down some great marks while Jules Direen was solid all day and Mark Alberry played his best game of the season in a minding role. All in all, a disappointing weekend for the Port who this Saturday face the improving East Coast Bombers at Lauderdale Oval.
