Three Weddings .. and a Funeral

Wayne Lamb's arrival as coach of the Cygnet Football Club in 1998 saw a revival of the club's fortunes as a dominating force in southern Tasmanian regional football. His policy of absolute faith in local talent fostered an indomitable club spirit. With a wealth of local talent his "Mosquito Squad' tore opposition teams apart. In his first season Cygnet had their Grand Final "stolen" and Wayne is probably one of the best coaches in our history not to have a premiership cup awarded for his efforts.

The Mosquito Squad matured and hardened over the ensuing years and, with the return of several modern-day Cygnet champions and the arrival of master-tactician coach Gary Williamson, Cygnet peaked in 2002 with the first of a Three-peat, by vanquishing a powerful Lauderdale in an upset win. Garry's team absolutely pulverised the same Lauderdale outfit in 2003, then made mockery of Sorell in 2004. The legend of "The Band of Brothers" was born.

All was set for an historic 4-in-a-row in 2005, but history had her way. A fit and inspired Kermandie stormed home in the last 5 minutes of that memorable game to grab the trophy.

The teams from all these 4 games are celebrated below.
