"Merger" Talks
Whilst I was not present at Thusday's meeting between Cygnet and Kermandie officials, to my understanding Cygnet has been "roped in" to a media headline of a "merger between Cygnet and Kermandie". Misleading statements about Cygnet were made to The Mercury by the Kermandie President and published without any verification by the reporter.
Contact from Kermandie was recieved on Wednesday night requesting a meeting with Cygnet officials on Wednesday night. We were advised that the end was nigh for Kermandie and they wanted to know if there was anything we could do to help them in the interest of football. The meeting was arranged and it was only in the press the next day that the issue of a merger was raised. After the meeting press statement was released to the Mercury by both clubs.
This event was instigaed by Kermandie and given a hearing by Cygnet in the best interests of football and our communities. When the meeting was arranged, Cygnet had no plans of going along listening to a merger proposal. It was made clear to Kermandie's representatives at the meeting on Thursday night that they should not have made statements about our club to the media. (and The Mercury should not have printed any statments about Cygnet without any verification). Some outcomes of the meeting have been briefly reported in The Mercury today and will be discussed at Wednesday's committee meeting.

After passing through your town and seeing you team a couples of times in action last year (and your great hospitality I have taken a keen interest in your progress. I will again follow with interest this year and look forward to seeing what young guys you have coming through and how the coach will get back into it. Merger or not I'm sure you guys will do what's best for the club, its history and future.

All the best Cygnet

"Rumours"
A rumour was started as a joke in the local butcher shop last week that our coach had resigned. I heard it in Hobart on Friday There seem to be a lot of people who want to believe Cygnet is going down the same path as Kermandie. It's time to prove these people wrong. Instead of trying to forecast the future, get behind the Port now. If we all do this, there will be a great history to talk about in the butcher's shop in 20 years's time.
